A full living room from China: sofa, tables, TV unit and rug in one order
Living room furniture from China in one order: how to size a 3.2 m sofa, rug and tables for your room, match walnut and stone finishes, and ship together.
- A buyer in Anhui furnished a 7-metre-wide living room with a 3.2 m sofa, a 2.4 × 3.4 m rug and a 2.6 m × 75 cm table behind the sofa — a useful set of proportions.
- A buyer in Hunan bought sofa, TV unit, side table and coffee table as one matching walnut series to avoid mismatched pieces.
- A Guangdong buyer mixed pieces instead, anchoring the room with a black, white and brown palette; the coffee table cost just over RMB 1,000, the poster said.
- The same coffee table combines matte lacquer, a natural stone insert and a walnut-veneer base — three finishes to match against the rest of the room.
You can furnish a whole living room from China in one order — sofa, coffee and side tables, TV unit, sideboard, rug and lighting — and it is usually cheaper per item than buying pieces one at a time. The work is in coordination: size every piece to one floor plan, lock finishes such as walnut, lacquer and stone with physical samples, and have items from several factories inspected and consolidated before they are loaded together.
What goes into a full living room order from China?
Usually a sofa, one or two lounge chairs, coffee and side tables, a TV unit or sideboard, a rug, lighting and curtains — typically from four to six different factories. Either way, the sofa decides the rest, which is why our guía para comprar un sofá en China is the place to start.
For an overseas buyer, ordering the whole room at once has two advantages. The cost of export packing, freight and clearance is shared across more items, and the pieces can be checked against each other before they leave — colours, heights and proportions — rather than in your living room. Rugs, lighting and curtains can travel in the same shipment; see rugs, lighting and curtains from Foshan. For the whole house, our whole-home sourcing service works the same way room by room.
Should you buy a matching living room set or mix pieces from different factories?
A matching series is easier and safer; mixing gives a more individual room but needs a fixed palette and physical samples. The Hunan buyer chose a complete walnut series — sofa, TV unit, side table and coffee table from one maker — specifically to avoid the work of coordinating separate pieces. The whole set uses North American FAS-grade black walnut, and the TV unit’s wide boards are grain-matched, so everything reads as one.
The Guangdong and Anhui buyers mixed pieces, and both held the room together with a strict black, white and brown palette plus repeated curves: an arc sofa, a rounded triangular coffee table. That approach works well from China if you do two things:
- Fix the palette in samples, not names. “Walnut” and “cream” vary between factories; send or approve physical swatches.
- Repeat one material. A wood tone or stone that appears on two or three pieces ties together items from different makers.
Style guides help you choose the palette: Italian minimalist is mostly neutrals, stone and low upholstery; mid-century and wabi-sabi leans on walnut, tan leather and texture.

A living room bought piece by piece in China is judged piece by piece; a living room bought for export is judged the day everything is unpacked in one room. The cheapest way to avoid a mismatched living room from China is to see the pieces side by side in Foshan, before they are packed, rather than in your home after they have crossed an ocean. That is what a consolidation warehouse is for, beyond saving freight.
How do you size a sofa, coffee table and rug for your room?
Work from a measured floor plan and size the sofa first, then the rug to the sofa, then the tables to the rug. The Anhui buyer’s answers in her comments give a real set of proportions for a large room.
| Elemento | Her size | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Living room width | About 7 m (open-plan with dining) | The wall the sofa faces sets its maximum length |
| Sofá | 3.2 m arc sofa | Just under half the wall; leaves room for side tables and circulation |
| Rug | 2.4 × 3.4 m | Slightly longer than the sofa, so the front legs sit on it |
| Table behind sofa | 2.6 m × 75 cm | A work or dining table defines the open-plan zone |
Her home is roughly 101 m² internally, larger than many apartments abroad; scale down in proportion. Check delivery routes as well as the room: lift size, stairwell turns and door widths decide whether a sofa must be split. The same measurements go into every factory’s order.

¿Qué aportan los comentarios?
Readers of the living-room posts asked the questions that matter for sizing and finishes.
- Sizes on request. Asked, the Anhui buyer gave her sofa (3.2 m), rug (2.4 × 3.4 m) and rear table (2.6 m × 75 cm) sizes — more useful than the photos.
- Cabinets were local. Her built-in cabinetry came from a local factory, a reminder that fitted joinery is usually a separate order from loose furniture.
- The finish question went unanswered. Under the coffee-table post, a reader asked whether the board was veneered or finish-free; no answer followed.
- Price in public, roughly. Asked the price, the Guangdong buyer said just over RMB 1,000 for the coffee table.
Which materials should you specify for coffee tables and TV units from China?
Name the core, the surface and the edge for every piece — solid wood, veneer or lacquer on board — and approve a sample of each finish. The Guangdong buyer’s coffee table shows how many decisions sit in one small piece: a matte lacquer top that the poster says resists fingerprints and heat, a natural stone insert, and a base in walnut veneer. When a reader asked whether the board was veneered or a finish-free panel, there was no reply — and that is exactly the question an overseas buyer must have answered in writing.
- Solid wood: ask for the species and grade (the Hunan set specifies FAS walnut) and the moisture content.
- Veneer: ask for veneer thickness and the core board; see madera maciza frente a chapa frente a MDF.
- Stone: natural or sintered, thickness and how it is fixed; see mesas de piedra sinterizada y mármol.
- Glass doors and drawers: tempered glass, runners and soft-close hardware.

How do you ship a whole living room from China together?
Have each factory deliver to one consolidation warehouse, inspect and re-pack there, label every carton by room, and ship as one LCL or FCL load. Six factories shipping separately means six sets of paperwork and six chances of loss; one consolidated shipment means one bill of lading and a room-by-room unloading list. A living room usually fits comfortably in shared container space; add the rest of the house and a full container becomes worthwhile — see LCL versus FCL for furniture.
Consolidation is also the last chance to see the pieces together. It is worth asking for the sofa, tables and rug samples to be photographed side by side before packing, so that colours and heights can be compared. Our guía del almacén de consolidación explains the process, and la comprobación de los muebles en la entrega covers the other end.

Cómo lo gestiona Source Foshan
For a living room we start from your floor plan, size every piece to it and write one specification per item, then compare two or three quotes per category from Foshan makers. We collect finish samples, check colours and heights across suppliers, and inspect every piece before it is re-packed in our Foshan consolidation warehouse and labelled by room. Deposits go to each supplier’s company account; you release balances only after approving our photo and video report. Our fee is 3–5% of order value, agreed before any factory is contacted.
If you would rather start from a coordinated room than a blank floor plan, we recommend Arcaya Living: its living-room collection groups sofas, tables and rugs sourced to confirmed specifications, and a three-minute style quiz helps settle the palette first.

Preguntas frecuentes
Can I buy a whole living room set from China?
Yes. Many Chinese makers sell complete living-room series, and a sourcing agent can combine pieces from several factories into one shipment. Size everything to one floor plan and approve finish samples first.
Is it cheaper to buy living room furniture from China?
Usually at factory level, and more so when several pieces share export packing and freight. Compare the landed cost of the whole room, not the price of the sofa alone.
What size rug goes with a 3.2 m sofa?
One Chinese buyer used a 2.4 × 3.4 m rug under a 3.2 m sofa, so the rug is slightly longer than the sofa and the front legs sit on it. Adjust to your room and furniture layout.
How do I make furniture from different Chinese factories match?
Fix a palette with physical samples, repeat one material across several pieces, and have all items checked side by side before packing. Colour names alone are not reliable between factories.
