A 3-day Foshan furniture buying trip: a route that ends in orders, not sore feet

A 3-day Foshan furniture buying trip: Lecong malls on day 1, Longjiang factories on day 2, Chancheng showrooms and return visits on day 3. Route and tips.

En bref

  • A Shaanxi buyer whose Longjiang post has 2,200+ likes describes one street lined with furniture showrooms on both sides, dominated by Italian-minimalist upholstery.
  • Several Longjiang showrooms will not open without an appointment; buyers book through each showroom’s Xiaohongshu account.
  • A two-day route through 15 independent showrooms covered about 14.7 km on its first day, with sofa prices from about RMB 5,000 to over RMB 20,000.
  • The same Longjiang buyer found Foshan strong on sofas and beds but thin on large solid-wood casegoods.
  • A Beijing buyer advises not renting a car: village roads are narrow, and a taxi lets you rest between stops.

A workable Foshan furniture buying trip takes three days: the Lecong malls on day one to set a benchmark, Longjiang’s factory showrooms on day two, and independent showrooms in Chancheng plus return visits to your finalists on day three. Book factory appointments before you fly, travel by taxi or with a driver, and keep the last afternoon for measuring and writing down specifications rather than seeing new shops.

What should a 3-day Foshan furniture buying trip look like?

One day to learn, one to compare, one to decide. The table below is the pattern we would suggest to a first-time buyer, built from what Chinese buyers report doing and what they say they would change.

Day Morning Afternoon Evening
Day 1 — Lecong The Louvre or Shunlian North: sit on the originals, note sizes and materials One value mall for price comparison Sort photos; confirm day-2 appointments
Day 2 — Longjiang Two or three booked factory showrooms Workshop visits at your two favourites Draft a specification for each shortlisted piece
Day 3 — Chancheng and return visits Independent showrooms for accent pieces Back to your finalists: measure, choose fabrics, get written quotes Compare quotes line by line

The hub guide to the Foshan furniture market explains the layers behind this order.

Day 1: how should you tackle Lecong?

Treat it as research: one showcase mall in the morning, one value mall in the afternoon, and no big orders. Most Chinese route posts start at the Louvre to see the top of the market, then move to Shunlian North or South. The mistake to avoid is trying to cover the whole road; buyers who try tend to report exhaustion rather than decisions. Our Lecong versus Longjiang comparison explains why the second day belongs elsewhere.

Notre avis

The trips that end in orders are the ones where the last day is spent going back, not going further. Chinese buyers can return next weekend if they get it wrong; an overseas buyer cannot. Plan day three for revisits: two finalists, a tape measure and a written quote beat ten new showrooms. Every piece you leave Foshan without a specification for is a piece you will be describing by WhatsApp photo from home.

Day 2: which Longjiang factories should you visit, and how?

Two or three booked showrooms that match your style, plus a look at production. A Shaanxi buyer describes Longjiang as a single street lined with furniture showrooms on both sides; she writes that much of China’s upholstered furniture, including export production, comes from the town. If your taste is Italian minimalist, she says, Longjiang alone may be enough. Mid-century styles are rarer, and she found almost no large solid-wood pieces such as dining tables or sideboards.

Her practical points are the useful ones: several showrooms will not open the door without an appointment, most can be contacted through Xiaohongshu to request a catalogue first, and some sell online at the same price as in the showroom. She also crossed one small workshop off her list after seeing screws exposed on a bookshelf priced above RMB 10,000 — a reminder that visiting production is how you tell workshops apart.

Qu'apportent les commentaires ?

Comments under the Longjiang and route posts add useful limits to the plan.

  • Not every style is here. The Longjiang poster replies that she recommends the trip for modern or Italian-minimalist homes but less so for mid-century, because upholstery is plentiful while large wooden pieces are hard to find.
  • Freight changes the maths. A reader from northern China asks whether flights and hotels cancel out the savings; the reply is that it depends on what you buy, and that large upholstered pieces make it worthwhile.
  • Delivery to other cities costs extra. Under the 15-showroom route, the poster answers that distant deliveries are unlikely to be free, but that larger orders can be negotiated.
  • Appointments vary. The same poster recalls that one showroom required booking while most did not.

Day 3: what should you do on the last day?

See a few independent showrooms in the morning, then go back to your finalists and turn preferences into written quotes. Chancheng, closer to central Foshan, has independent showrooms in converted industrial parks; one promotional post combines them with the Ancestral Temple and the old Nanfeng kiln for a day out. A two-day route through 15 showrooms reported sofas at roughly RMB 5,000–15,000 in one store, over RMB 18,000 for a Bauhaus-style sofa in another, and chairs from about RMB 4,000 in a third.

The same route’s closing tip matters for overseas buyers: confirm before ordering whether delivery is included. For you, that means delivery to a consolidation warehouse in export packing, written into the quote.

How do you get around Foshan on a furniture buying trip?

By taxi or with a hired driver; a self-drive rental is the hardest option. A Beijing buyer who did the trip over a weekend advises against renting a car: roads in the factory villages are narrow, local driving is assertive, and a taxi lets you recover between stops. Stay in Lecong so each day starts close to the malls; our guide to Lecong hotels and transport covers where. If your trip overlaps the Guangzhou fair, see fairs versus the Foshan markets before splitting your days.

We build buying trips around your list: the route, showroom appointments and factory visits are approved before you arrive. A guide costs USD 150 a day, a guide and car USD 250, and a 7-seat SUV USD 299. On the ground we record dimensions, materials and finishes for each shortlisted piece, and after the trip we turn them into one specification and compare 2–3 quotes against it. Orders are tracked with weekly photos and video, inspected before loading, and consolidated with your other suppliers’ goods in our Foshan warehouse.

FAQ

How many days do you need to buy furniture in Foshan?

Three days suits most first visits: Lecong, Longjiang, and a final day for independent showrooms and return visits. Buyers who know exactly what they want report managing in two.

Do I need appointments for Foshan furniture factories?

For many Longjiang and independent showrooms, yes; some will not open the door without one. Contact them a few days ahead, usually through their social media accounts or WeChat.

Should I rent a car for a Foshan furniture trip?

Buyers generally advise against driving yourself: factory-village roads are narrow and parking between stops takes time. Taxis or a hired driver are easier.

What should I bring on a Foshan furniture buying trip?

Floor plans with measurements, a tape measure, comfortable shoes and a list of what you need by room. Photograph each piece with its label and note dimensions and materials as you go.
