Restaurant furniture from China: which chairs, tables and booths to import, what to check on joints, bases and fabrics, and why 2–3 quotes on one spec matter.

In short

  • The best candidates for import are chairs, table tops and bases, booths and custom joinery; small top-up orders are usually cheaper to buy locally.
  • Restaurant chairs fail first at the joints and glides; ask how the frame is joined and what reinforcement is used, not only what it looks like.
  • Upholstery for dining rooms should be chosen for cleanability and tested abrasion resistance; ask the factory for test reports and let your designer set the level.
  • Fire requirements for furniture in public spaces vary by country and city; your fit-out consultant decides, the factory supplies the evidence.
  • Searching Chinese platforms for “restaurant furniture” mostly returns home dining rooms, because the same Chinese word covers both — a reason to brief factories with drawings rather than keywords.

Restaurant furniture from China is worth importing when the order is large or custom enough to justify freight and a written specification: dining chairs, table tops and bases, booths and banquettes, and custom joinery such as host stands and waiter stations. The pieces fail at joints, bases, foam and fabric, so specify those in writing, approve a sample chair and table before bulk production, and have every item inspected before the balance is paid.

Which restaurant furniture is worth buying from China?

Custom or high-volume pieces — chairs, table tops and bases, booths and joinery — are worth importing; a handful of stock chairs usually is not. Freight, duty and the time spent on samples are fixed costs, so the saving grows with quantity and customisation. A new restaurant with a full dining room, a group opening several sites, or a hotel restaurant with its own look is the typical buyer.

Item Import? Why
Dining chairs and bar stools Usually Large quantities, many frame and fabric options
Table tops and bases Usually Custom sizes and finishes; bases ship compactly
Booths and banquettes Often Made to the floor plan; see our booth buying guide
Host stands, waiter stations, shelving Sometimes Worth it when joinery matches other imported pieces
Replacement chairs later Rarely Order spares with the main shipment instead

Our restaurant furniture sourcing page explains how we split an order by category, and the hotel furniture from China guide shows how restaurants fit into a larger hospitality project.

How do you specify restaurant chairs and tables that last?

Specify the frame, joints, finish, glides, foam and fabric in writing, and approve one sample of each before bulk production. Restaurant chairs are dragged, tilted and stacked every day. A residential chair can look the same and fail in months.

  • Frames: species and moisture content for timber; tube size and wall thickness for metal; how the rails meet the legs, and whether corner blocks or brackets are used.
  • Finish: a sample of the lacquer or powder coat, with the sheen, kept by both sides.
  • Glides and feet: suited to your floor — hard floors and carpet need different glides.
  • Seats: foam density and thickness, and whether seat pads are replaceable.
  • Tables: top material and edge, base weight and footprint, levelling feet, and whether tops and bases ship separately.

For dining rooms that share a building with guestrooms, the same specification discipline described in choosing a hotel furniture manufacturer applies.

Our view

A restaurant owner should buy fewer designs in larger numbers. Every extra chair model adds a sample, an approval and a new way to fail; two well-specified chairs and one table system, bought with spares in the same shipment, will look better after two years than six styles chosen from photos. In restaurant furniture, the sample you approve is the product you get — so approve it as if it were the whole order.

What fabric and fire checks does restaurant furniture need?

Choose upholstery for cleaning and wear, and confirm flammability rules with your consultant before the factory quotes. Ask each factory for the fabric’s abrasion and colour-fastness test reports, and whether a stain-resistant finish is applied. Faux leather and coated fabrics are common in dining rooms because they wipe clean; check that they will not crack at seams.

Fire rules for seating in restaurants and other public spaces differ by country, state and building type, and may cover foam as well as cover fabric. Your fit-out consultant or local authority names the standard; the factory then supplies test reports for the exact materials used. Do not accept a general certificate for a different fabric.

How should a restaurant furniture order be shipped?

Knock-down where possible, fully packed for export, and labelled by area so the opening team can unpack in order. Many chairs ship assembled because their joints should not be re-made on site; table bases, tops and booth modules usually ship separately. A single restaurant often does not fill a container on its own, so compare LCL and full-container options with your forwarder, and consider combining the order with kitchen shelving or lighting from the same region.

Retailers and groups that buy restaurant chairs for resale or across several sites should read wholesale furniture from China for retailers on MOQs and mixed containers.

How do you compare restaurant furniture manufacturers in China?

Send the same drawings and specification to two or three makers and compare line by line, including packing and lead time. Price differences between restaurant-furniture makers often come from hidden choices: thinner tube, softer foam, a cheaper fabric or no corner blocks. A written specification makes those choices visible. Ask each maker for photos of the frame before upholstery, the finishing line and a recent export packing job. Our contract furniture sourcing page shows how we present that comparison.

How Source Foshan handles it

For restaurant projects we take your plan or item list, shortlist makers by category, and compare 2–3 quotes per item against one written specification covering frame, finish, foam, fabric and packing. We follow production with weekly photos and video, check sample chairs and tables before bulk production, and inspect every piece before loading. Goods from several factories are received into our Foshan warehouse, re-packed to export standard and labelled by area. Deposits — as low as 10% on many orders — go to the supplier’s company account, and you release the balance only after approving the inspection report. Our fee is 3–5% of order value, agreed in writing up front.

Prefer to choose from a ready catalogue?

For smaller restaurants and cafés that want proven designs rather than a custom programme, we recommend Arcaya Living: its dining tables and chairs are sourced to confirmed specifications, and delivery can run through to installation.

FAQ

Is restaurant furniture from China good quality?

It can be excellent or poor at similar-looking prices; the difference is in frames, joints, foam and fabric. Write those into a specification, approve a sample and inspect before paying the balance.

What is the minimum order for restaurant furniture from China?

It depends on the maker and on customisation. Stock designs can sometimes be ordered in small numbers; custom finishes or fabrics usually carry a minimum per design, which you should confirm in writing.

Do Chinese restaurant chairs meet fire regulations?

Only if the materials are specified and tested to your local requirement. Your consultant names the standard; the factory supplies test reports for the actual foam and fabric used.

Should restaurant chairs be shipped assembled?

Often yes, because re-making glued joints on site weakens them. Tables, bases and booth modules usually ship separately to save volume. Agree packing per item in the order.
