Wholesale furniture from China for retailers: MOQs, mixed containers and margins
Wholesale furniture from China for retailers: MOQs, mixed containers, 15–25 day production plus 45–55 days at sea, and what 'duty-paid' offers leave out.
- An industry-report post puts China’s exports of furniture and parts at US$49.5 billion for January–September 2024, led by metal furniture, wooden furniture and parts.
- A Longjiang export seller told a New York enquirer that custom pieces take about 15–25 يومًا to make and 45–55 days by sea.
- The same seller advertises delivery that is “free shipping and tax included” to the door — an offer to question before ordering for resale.
- A Guangdong maker says its extending dining table is made on the same line that supplies US stores and e-commerce, opening from 1.17 m to 2.67 m.
- MOQs are set per design, fabric and finish; mixing suppliers in one container is how small retailers get past them.
Retailers can buy wholesale furniture from China without a factory-sized order by mixing several suppliers’ goods in one container through a consolidation warehouse, as long as each item has a written specification and passes inspection before loading. Margins depend on landed cost — factory price plus freight, duty, customs, local delivery and damage allowance — so compare that figure, not the ex-factory price, and be clear about who is the importer of record when a seller offers ‘duty-paid’ delivery.
Can a small retailer buy wholesale furniture from China?
Yes, if you buy from several suppliers and combine their goods in one container rather than trying to meet each factory’s full-container minimum. Chinese factories set minimums per design, fabric and finish, not per customer. A sofa maker may accept a few units of a stock model but ask for a larger run in a custom fabric; a casegoods maker may need a minimum per finish. Our guide to الحد الأدنى لكميات طلبات الأثاث في الصين explains how these minimums are negotiated.
The workaround is consolidation: buy a sensible quantity from each specialist — upholstery from one, dining from another, rugs and lighting from others — and have all of it received, checked and loaded together. Our الشحن والتجميع shows how that works from our Foshan warehouse.
What are Chinese export furniture sellers offering retailers?
Mostly a showroom range, custom sizes and fabrics, and door-to-door delivery — pitched at individual buyers as much as at trade. A Longjiang seller’s post, with more than 400 comments, advertises 20 years in furniture, a factory of over 20,000 m², Italian-style and modern ranges, custom sizes and fabrics, a signed contract, and delivery to more than ten countries. A Guangdong maker says its extending oak dining table — 1.17 m round, 2.67 m with three leaves, seating 10–12 — comes off the line that supplies US stores and online platforms, and is now sold in China too.
Both are seller promotions. They are useful for seeing what an export-oriented factory can make, but a retailer needs more than a catalogue: consistent quality across repeat orders, carton marks and labelling for your warehouse, test reports your market requires, and a price that holds for a season.

For a retailer, the cheapest factory is rarely the best supplier; the best one is the factory that will make the same product the same way on the third reorder. Buy your first container as a test of consistency, not of price — a small, mixed order from specialists, inspected line by line, tells you which suppliers deserve the next one.
How do you calculate wholesale furniture margins from China?
Work from landed cost per unit, then add your own warehousing, delivery and returns allowance before setting a retail price. Landed cost includes:
- Factory price, with packing specified.
- Inland trucking and export handling in China.
- Ocean freight, allocated by volume — bulky upholstery costs more per unit than flat-packed tables.
- Import duty and taxes under the correct HS codes (see our دليل رموز HS للأثاث); rates change, so confirm with your broker at the time of ordering.
- Customs clearance, port fees and delivery to your warehouse.
- An allowance for damage and slow sellers.
“Duty-paid” or “tax-included” offers bundle several of these lines together. Ask who is named as importer of record, what value is declared and under which codes, because a retailer reselling the goods carries the risk if the declaration is wrong. That is a question for your customs broker, not the seller.

ما الذي تُضيفه التعليقات؟
The comment threads under export sellers’ posts show what buyers ask — and how little is answered in public.
- Timelines are the only public numbers. Asked how long delivery to New York takes, the Longjiang seller replied 15–25 days for custom production and 45–55 days at sea.
- Every price is private. Questions about shipping to Canada, dining sets to Germany and price lists all received the same reply: duty-paid door delivery, details by private message.
- Destinations are broad. The seller confirmed delivery to Dubai and Toronto in replies, and said it is based in Foshan.
- Export lines sell at home too. Under the extending-table post, readers asked whether they could buy it in China; the maker said yes — export ranges are not always exclusive.
Should retailers buy from wholesale markets or factories?
Use markets to find designs and benchmark prices; buy repeat ranges from the factories that make them. A stall in a wholesale mall may be a showroom for several workshops, which is fine for one-off stock but makes repeat quality harder to control. Our guide to وتقارن أسواق الجملة الصينية للأثاث compares Foshan, Guangzhou and regional markets. Retailers who also sell to designers can use the approvals workflow in sourcing FF&E for interior designers، ومع دليل أثاث الفنادق من الصين covers contract orders.

What do bigger trends mean for a furniture retailer?
China remains the largest furniture exporter, but more makers now also produce abroad — so ask where your goods are actually made. The industry-report post describes Chinese furniture companies building factories in Vietnam, Serbia and Mexico, partly in response to US anti-dumping measures and rising labour costs, and acquiring brands overseas. For a retailer, the country of origin on your invoice affects duty and labelling; confirm it for each line, and check our overview of لجملة الأثاث الصيني for how we verify it.

كيف تتعامل Source Foshan مع ذلك
For retailers we compare 2–3 quotes per line against one written specification, including carton size, marks and labelling. Goods from several suppliers are received into our Foshan consolidation warehouse, inspected against the confirmed spec, re-packed to export standard where needed and loaded in one container, with LCL or FCL booked and export documents coordinated. Deposits — as low as 10% on many orders — go to each supplier’s company account, and balances are released only after you approve the photo and video inspection report. Our fee is 3–5% of order value, agreed in writing and shown separately; we take no commissions from suppliers, so reorders stay with the factories that perform.
Retailers who want to test a range before committing to factory minimums can start from Arcaya Living: a catalogue of more than 10,000 pieces sourced to confirmed specifications, including storage and consoles and rugs that fill out a mixed container.

الأسئلة الشائعة
What is the MOQ for wholesale furniture from China?
It varies by factory and by how much you customise. Stock designs may be available in small quantities; custom fabrics or finishes usually carry a minimum per design. Combining several suppliers in one container is the usual way around it.
Is 'DDP' or 'duty-paid' furniture from China safe for a retailer?
It can be convenient, but ask who is the importer of record, what value is declared and which HS codes are used. If the declaration is wrong, the risk can land on the business reselling the goods; check with your customs broker.
How long does wholesale furniture take to arrive from China?
One Longjiang exporter quotes 15–25 days for custom production and 45–55 days by sea to New York. Add time for samples, inspection, consolidation and customs at your end.
Can I mix different furniture suppliers in one container?
Yes. Goods are delivered to a consolidation warehouse, checked and loaded together. It lets a retailer order sensible quantities from several specialists instead of one factory’s full container.
